Fearing a landslide, residents of two building in Chittagong have evacuated their dwellings.
The residents, at Bagghona area in the city, were forced to evacuate the buildings when a chunk of land fell on a four-storey building from a hill top around 4:45pm on Sunday.
Deputy Assistant Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Chittagong Md Jasim Uddin said: "The building has been covered with mud up to the third floor. We are evacuating people from the building and also from a nearby building."
Chittagong Development Authority code wasn't followed in building the four-storey building, he said.
The fire service official added: "An under-construction building, which is situated at the top of the hill, might have caused the chunk of mud to accidentally fall on the building."
On June 21, the district administration and Chittagong Metropolitan Police jointly conducted drives to evict hillside dwellers from risky hills in Chittagong city.
Due to continuous heavy rain since Friday, the authorities started the eviction drive as there is a possibility of mudslides and casualties, said district administration and police sources.
