City life troubled by rain

The torrential rainfall has lashed many parts of the capital on Sunday, causing misery for the city dwellers.

The downpour has inundated the city streets under knee-deep water in many areas, including Kakrail, Mouchak, Malibagh, Karwanbazar, Mirpur, Kazipara, Shewrapar, Shyamoli, Kathalbagan, Green Road and Motijheel area.

Assam-Delhi row on Bangladesh visa issue

India's external affairs ministry has rejected Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s allegation that India was thinking of allowing Bangladeshi nationals entry without visa if they were aged over 70 or under 10, reported Kolkata's daily Telegraph.

Gogoi made the allegation at two media briefings in three days.

Gunmen attack Nato air base in Afghanistan

An Afghan provincial government spokesman says gunmen have attacked a NATO air base on the outskirts of the eastern city of Jalalabad, where the US has forces stationed.

Ahmad Zia Abdulzai says he heard several explosions.

Five girls violated in the capital

Five girls, four of whom were adolescents, were raped in the city yesterday. The victims are now admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Of the adolescents, one hailing from Sherpur and another from Pirojpur were violated by four staff members of a public bus service “Labbaik” Paribahan yesterday in the city’s Mugda area.

One killed in Natore road accident

A Mango trader has been killed and five others have been injured in a road accident in Agran-Sutirpar area under Baraigram upazila in Natore district early Sunday.

The deceased is Abdul Latif,35, son of Abdur Rahim of village Vanukar of Bagha upazila of Rajshahi. The injured have been admitted at a local clinic.
