One robber beaten to death in Gazipur

One alleged robber of a gang has been beaten to death by a mob when they were engaged in a clash after looting a house in Dumni village of Sreepur upazila of Gazipur early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana, 35, hailed from Zaina Bazar of Sreepur, Saiful Islam, SI of Sreepur police station has told the Dhaka Tribune.

Two villagers – Subud Chandra and Manik Chandra – have been injured during the clash between robbers and villagers.

They have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the SI said.

Locals said a gang of 10 to 12 entered the house of Auroon Dash in Dumni village; took the house members hostage at gunpoint and looted valuables.

The members of another house informed the matter to the villagers over phone. Neighbours came out of their houses and besieged the criminals.

At the time, a clash erupted between villagers and robbers and two villagers were chopped by the robbers.

Locals managed to catch one of the robbers and beat him severely, leaving him dead on the spot. The rest of the dacoits, however, managed to flee the scene.
