A parliamentary panel on Chittagong Hill Tracts yesterday suggested that the government should launch a special drive to recover illegal arms in the Hill Tracts region.
The parliamentary standing committee on Chittagong Hill Tracts at its meeting also recommended rehabilitating 21 families who had lost their homesteads for the establishment of a camp for the Border Guard Bangladesh in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari.
It recommended holding discussion with the authorities of Hill Tracts district councils before setting up of any establishment in the region.
“We had thorough discussion on law and order in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and suggested the launching of a special drive to recover illegal arms,” Abdul Latif, a committee member, told reporters.
