Citizens protest land grabbing in Gazipur

Citizens yesterday formed a human chain to free the illegally occupied lands of historic Bhawal Garh in Gazipur.

A local body named “Save Bhawal Garh”  organised the human chain and staged the protest rally for one and a half hours yesterday from around 11am to 12:30pm in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Gazipur.

The speakers alleged that around 12,000 acres of Bhawal Garh land have been illegally grabbed by the ruling party men for vested interest. The organisers also distributed handbills among the locals citing their 13-point demand, witnesses said.

The protest programme was presided over by SM Mujibur Rahman, chairman of “Save Bhawal Garh” movement and deputy commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad district unit. The welcome speech was given by AKM Ripon Ansari, secretary general of the organisation.
