The High Court has allowed the government two more weeks to place report on measures that have been taken to implement the Safe Food Act 2013 through gazette notification.
An HC bench of Justice Mirza Hussain Haider and Justice Khurshid Alam Sarkar passed the order following a time plea by Deputy Attorney General Al-Amin Sarker.
Earlier on May 26, a High Court bench comprising Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain directed the food secretary to submit the report within June 16.
As Justice Altaf, an additional judge, was not regularised, the petitioner moved the plea to the HC bench led by Mirza Hussain Haider.
Following the petition filed by Legal Action Bangladesh, the High Court earlier also issued a ruling asking the food secretary to explain in two weeks why he should not be directed to make the Safe Food Act 2013 effective through a gazette notification.
