Minister confirms Nur’s arrest in Kolkata

State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has confirmed about the arrest of Nur Hossain, the prime accused of the seven murders in Narayanganj, in Kolkata of India.

The minister has made the disclosure while talking to journalists at the secretariat on Sunday morning.

The junior home minister said a magistrate from India has informed the home ministry about the arrest of Nur and his accomplices in the country.

He, however, said: “We are trying to re-confirm the identity of Nur and his accomplices.”

Asad said the government would be brought back Nur Hossain to the country once the ministry re-confirms his identity.

“Bangladesh has an extradition treaty with India and we will be able to bring them back to the country under this treaty.”

The procedure to bring them back will start as soon as Bangladesh becomes sure about their arrest in India, he added.

The minister said: “We had previously said we are not trying to spare any criminals or hide the truth. They will be brought back and produced in front of the people once we confirm their identity.”

Nur Hossain, prime accused of the seven murders in Narayanganj, was arrested with three of his accomplices in Kaliakair area under Baguhati police station in India on Saturday night.

On April 27, NCC panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others were abducted. Later, their bodies were recovered from Shitalaykha River on April 30.

Nazrul's wife filed an abduction case against Nur on April 28.
