138 gold bars recovered at Ctg airport

Customs officials have recovered 138 gold bars from an abandoned luggage in a Dubai flight at Shah Amanat Airport of Chittagong on Saturday night.

None was nabbed in this connection while the seized bars were in the custody of Chittagong Customs House in the airport till filing this report.

Qazi Rezaul Hasan, assistant commissioner of Chittagong Customs House in Shah Amanat Interational Airport, told Dhaka Tribune that customs officials found an abandoned luggage in a flight of Fly Dubai that landed at the airport at 7:40pm.

“We found 138 gold bars wrapped inside some charger lights in the luggage around 8:30pm,” he said.

The worth of the seized gold bars, weighing 16 kilogrammes, is Tk6.90 crore, added the customs official.

Earlier on Friday, customs officials detained a person with 16 gold bars at the airport.

The customs sources said about 2,500 gold bars worth more than Tk100 crore were seized from the airport in 2014 while 686 gold bars worth Tk35.30 crore were seized in 2013.
