Schoolboy's body recovered in Jhalakati

The hacked body of a school student has been recovered from the Kirtipasha canal of Jhalakati district on Friday, a day after he went missing.

The victim, Mehedi Hasan, 12, was a class-VI student of Kirtipasha Prosanno Kumar School and son of day-labourer Anwar Hossain, of Belda Khan Village under Jhalakathi Sadar upazila.

Mehedi's father Anwar Hossain said: “Mehedi left home about 3:00pm on Thursday to deposit money of a loan installment and went missing.

Later, some fishermen noticed his floating body in Kirtipasha canal around 7am on Friday and informed police,” he added.

Shilmoni Chakma, Jhalakati Sadar police station officer-in-charge, said: “Police recovered the body immediately after locals informed us. The body bore several injury marks. Police is suspecting that he might be strangled and hacked.”

“The body was sent to Jhalakati General Hospital morgue and handed over to family members after autopsy on Friday afternoon.”

Later Anwar lodged a case with Jhalakati Sadar police station on Friday evening against two neighbouring youths.

According to the case statement, Mehedi's neighbours Russell, 20, and Rakib, 18, sons of Abdul Halim, recently gave him death threat during an altercation over playing cricket.

“The siblings and their father abducted Mehedi and killed him,” said Anwar.

Following the body recovery, locals caught the accused and handed them over to police.
