Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday told parliament that per capita foreign debt stood at Tk12,700 ($162.20) on June 30 last year while total foreign debt amounted to Tk195,146 crore ($24,907m).
He said this in reply to a question from ruling party lawmaker Ayen Uddin during the question-answer session.
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu told the House that the government would shortly formulate a policy for the operation of online news media.
“A committee was formed on October 16, 2012 for drawing up guidelines for online news media. The committee, headed by the principal information officer, was reconstituted on January 20 last year. A sub-committee was also formed to help the main committee,” he said while replying to a question from Amina Ahmed. He there were 83 online news media in the country.
Replying to another question from Awami League lawmaker Didarul Alam, the minister told parliament that the government had taken an initiative to enact a law on job criteria for journalists.
