A lighter vessel carrying 13 sailors loaded with 950 tonnes of cement clinkers has sank in Potenga beach on Thursday morning.
Deputy Conservator of Chittagong port Nazmul Alam said: “The vessel MV Bristi drowned as its hull was cracked after hitting with a sunken ship around 9am.”
The vessel was returning to the jetty of Diamond Cement Ltd after loading from a foreign vessel Xing Peng DA, he said.
The sailors were rescued by the locals of the nearby boats in the beach, he added.
