The activities of two new upazilas are set to start shortly as the cabinet division has given its approval on Wednesday.
The new upazilas are- Osmaninagar under Sylhet district and Guimara under Khagrachhari district.
The cabinet division issued separate gazette notifications giving approval of establishing the new two upazila following the decision of the National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reform (NICAR) led by the prime minister.
The NICAR approved the proposal of establishing the two new upazilas in the two districts which were already operational as police stations.
Osmaninagar police station was under Balaganj upazila in Sylhet while Guimara was under Matiranga upazila in Khagrachhari district.
According to the cabinet division order signed by its Additional Secretary NM Ziaul Alam, Osmaninagar upazila will be formed comprising eight union parishad areas of the Balaganj upazila.
The union parishads are- Umarpur, Sadipur, West Poilanpur, Goala Bazar, Tazpur, Dayameer, Burunga Bazar and Usmanpur.
At the same time, the new Guimara upazila will be established comprising three union parishads. The unions are- Guimara of Matiranga, Sindukchhari of Mahalchhari and Hafchhari of Ramgarh upazila.
