50 RMG workers fall sick in Gazipur

At least 50 workers of a ready-made garment factory at Jarun area in Konabari fell sick after taking tiffin at the factory on Saturday night. The ailing workers of T-design sweater factory were admitted to different clinics in Konabari area.

Workers of the factory said they were served a biscuit, a banana, an egg and bread as their tiffin around 8pm on Saturday. After taking the tiffin, many of them started vomiting and felt dizzy. Some of the workers fell unconscious.

Then the workers rushed to nearby Haque medical and Sharif general hospital for treatment.

Owner of Sharif general hospital Khandaker Mohammed Sharif said the incident might have occurred for food poisoning from the tiffin.

He said most of the workers felt pain in their stomach and were vomiting.

“We provided them saline and necessary treatments. Most of the workers were released after 12.30am,” he added.

Assistant officer of compliance section of the factory Abdullah Al Mamun said only the workers of third floor fell sick while there were more than five hundred workers in the factory.
