Communications Minister Obaidul Quader has asked the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to check documents of motorbikes to bring down road accidents to zero level.
Obaidul Quader said: "Nowadays motorbikes have turned terrible to hasten road accidents.”
The minister has made the directive while talking to the journalists at an awareness building campaign at Mohakhali Bus terminal on Saturday, reports BSS.
The BRTA has organised the awareness building campaign in a bid to bring the road accidents to zero level.
The BRTA launched the program in the city's four major points by distributing leaflet and stickers among the common people as well as motor vehicle users.
The minister said the BRTA trained 75 professional female drivers and handed over driving licenses, as they drive motor vehicles smoothly.
He said: "BRTA will have to check registration papers of motorbikes to minimise road accidents."
BRTA Chairman M Nurul Islam, Director Mashiur Rahman and officials concerned were present at the campaign.
The minister said the BRTA trained 1,02,283 people and organised 319 seminars and workshops to create awareness among people.
The government has created 11 new posts for executive magistrates to gear up BRTA's activities in the legal field. The government will also establish Driving Testing and Training Center in the capital, he added.
