Moderate rainfall yesterday was a relief to people in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country, which had been suffering under a moderate heat wave for a few weeks.
According to the Met Office, the city witnessed 34 mm of rainfall from 11:45am to 5:00pm while 68mm rainfall took place in Jessore, 44mm in Comilla, 48mm in Maijdee Court, 14mm in Bhola, 21mm in Patukhali, 9mm in Kutubdia and 9mm in Barisal.
The temperature dropped by 3.3 degrees Celsius from Friday’s 38 degrees Celsius in the capital. The country’s highest temperature was 39 degree Celsius in Chuadanga yesterday while it was 40.6 degree Celsius in Jessore on Friday.
Moderate rainfall may continue for three to four more days in the country until the deep convection over the North Bay disappears, said Abdur Rahman Khan, Meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Dhaka.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted, according to weather office sources. It is also likely to occur at some places in Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Dhaka divisions in the next 24 hours starting from 3 pm yesterday.
Earlier on Friday, the weather office in a special bulletin advised Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to keep all fishing boats and trawlers close to the coast until further notice.
