All of the ministries, divisions and public offices were asked to ensure implementation of the High Court order on the use of the Bengali language in every sphere of the country.
The secretaries and top brass of the public offices were instructed to inform the public administration ministry about the progress of implementing the use of Bengali language at their offices within the next 15 days.
The instruction was given in an inter-ministerial coordination meeting of the public administration ministry held at the ministry with Ministry’s Senior Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury in the chair.
Several secretaries of different ministries and divisions, senior officials and chiefs of different public offices attended the meeting.
Kamal Chowdhury told the media that all of the secretaries and top brass of ministries, divisions and public offices were asked to implement the court order on implementing the use of Bengali language in every sphere. They will inform the public administration ministry about their progress in implementing the order within next 15 days.
They will also inform us about their problems in implementing the order, if they have any. The progress reports will be forwarded to the court as per its direction, he added.
“The direction was given to execute the Bangla Bhasha Procholon Ain (Bengali Language Implementation Act) that was enacted in 1987. It was mandatory to implement the law. But, it was not implemented yet,” he said adding, “We will also asked the private organizations to follow the order of the court.”
Requesting the media to stop using English or mixed language programmes or advertisements, Kamal Chowdhury said, “The information ministry has already discussed the matter with media bosses in this regard. They will sit again with the media bosses and take initiative to execute the court’s order.”
The city corporations and local government institutions will take necessary steps to ensure Bengali billboards and name plates of different public or private or business offices in their areas, he said.
The High Court on February 17 issued a ruling, asking the government to take steps for implementing and ensuring the use of Bangla in every sphere soon as per the Bengali Language Implementation Act.
The court also ruled that all signboards, number plates of vehicles and the names of mass media should be written in Bangla everywhere.
