DMCH resumes emergency services

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) has returned to its normal course around 10am on Sunday after the medical services at the emergency unit halted following an attack on doctors by unidentified criminals on Saturday night.

Sub-Inspector Mozammel Huqe, In-charge of DMCH outpost told the Dhaka Tribune that the hospital began to come in its normal state around 10am.

However, according to the witnesses, the intern doctors also tried to enforce their halt in the morning, sending the patients back saying no service would be provided as part of their programme.

Hospital sources said the internees and honorary doctors hadn't attended works, so the operation theater had to strive to run.

This department has the most internee and honorary doctors. It is now running by the doctors brought from different other departments for the time being.

Different sources, relatives of the patients and departments confirmed that the outdoor activities are running as usual, where almost all doctors are appointed.

On Saturday night, Medical services at the emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital have been halted for nearly three hours following an attack over doctors by unidentified criminals.

Witnesses and Shahbagh police station said a gang of unidentified criminals attacked on five to six DMCH doctors, leaving one critically injured around 9:30pm.

The injured was Mominul Islam, 28, an honorary doctor of DMCH.

Later, the internee and honorary doctors launched angry agitations around 11:30pm, keeping the emergency unit shut for over an hour.

The agitating doctors also demanded the resignation of DMCH director Brig Gen Mostafizur Rahman for his failure in protecting the doctors.
