The chief accused of the recent abductions and killings in Narayanganj has apparently fled from within the security net of the law enforcement agencies.
Such was deduced from the comments made by state minister for home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal while he was briefing media in the capital on Sunday.
“Nur Hossain and his family were under the surveillance of the law enforcers,” the junior home boss said in response to a flurry of inquiries from the media. “But, he managed to flee.”
Nur Hossain is the chief accused in the abduction and killing of seven people in Narayanganj including a local city counsillor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Kumar.
The bodies of the seven surfaced in the Sitalakhya river some days after they went missing.
However, the junior minister did not elaborate on how Nur Hossain's escape was possible. He avoided a direct answer and said “law enforcers are trying their best to nab him.”
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was speaking to the media after a meeting at the home ministry's conference room on the security of the riverine route across the country.
Situation of the country 'not that bad'
Journalists pressed the junior minister regarding panic among the people amid the spate of abductions and killings throughout the country, including Narayanganj.
“It is not true that law and order has collapsed in the country,” he said in response. “The situation has not reached to such heights.”
Asked whether law enforcers are involved in the abduction, he said everything is being subjected to investigation and if their involvement is proved, they would be punished.
“None would be spared, even the god father,” he added. “We have obtained a clue and it will help to identify the criminals.”
Fifteen people were nabbed from the residence of Nur Hossain in crackdown on Saturday, a week after the bodies of the dead people surfaced in the Sitalakhya river.
