BAF training plane catches fire

Fire has broken out in a training plane of Bangladesh Air Force while landing at Chittagong Airport on Wednesday afternoon.

Chittagong Airport Manager Wing Commander Nur-e-Alam has confirmed about the incident to the Dhaka Tribune.

Narayanganj 5 MP Nasim Osman dies

Member of Parliament from Narayanganj 5 and Jatiya Party Presidium Member Nasim Osman has died of cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at an India hospital.

His brother AKM Shamim Osman, who is a lawmaker from the Awami League, told the Dhaka Tribune that Nasim had died of cardiac arrest around 4am.

22 trafficked victims return from Iran

A total of 22 Bangladeshi migrants, who were abducted by a gang of human traffickers in Iran, have returned home on Wednesday morning.

A scheduled flight of Emirates carrying the migrant workers arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8am, Binoy Krishno, executive director of Rights Jessore, said.

BAU proctor removed over Saad killing protest

Proctor and four assistant proctors of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have been removed from their duties.

BAU Registrar Md Abdul Khaleque has told the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

Prof Dr Harun-or-Rashid of Animal Husbandry Faculty has been made the new proctor of the university, he said.

Modi casts vote in Indian polls

BJP's Narendra Modi, the man expected to be India's next Prime Minister, has voted in his home state Gujarat in the seventh phase of the general election.

He cast his vote at a school in the city of Ahmedabad. All 26 seats are up for grabs in the state, reported BBC Online.

JMB men snatching: 8 more held

Eight people have been detained over possible links to the killing of a policeman and snatching away three condemned militants from a prison van in Trishal upazila, Mymensingh.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Wing Commander ATM Habibur Rahman endorsed the information and said details will be revealed later on Wednesday in a press conference.

HRW blames govt, opposition for poll violence

The human rights watchdog has recommended actions against those involved in 'unlawful killings and torture.'

The government and rival opposition parties are responsible for the violence during the latest general election in Bangladesh, Human Rights Watch has said.

“These were the bloodiest elections since independence, and unless concrete steps are taken, the situation is likely to worsen,” its Asia Director Brad Adams said.

Iraq goes to parliamentary poll

Searchers: Wreckage in Bay of Bengal not from MH370

A private company has said it had found what it believes is wreckage of a plane in the Bay of Bengal that should be investigated as potential debris from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, but the possibility was dismissed by search coordinators.

The Joint Agency Coordination Centre (JACC) managing the multinational search for the missing plane said it continued to believe that the plane came down in the southern Indian Ocean off Australia, reported Reuters.

58 countries agree on migration cost cut

Fifty-eight rich and poor countries have agreed that human rights of migrants must be protected and costs of migration as well as transfer of remittances must be lowered.

After a two-day hectic discussion, these countries agreed on some recommendations on migration so that origin and destination countries as well as migrants can be benefitted, Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque told a press briefing held at a city hotel yesterday.

Oklahoma inmate dies after execution is botched

An Oklahoma inmate whose execution was stopped Tuesday because the delivery of a new drug combination was botched died of a heart attack, the head of the state Department of Corrections told AP.

Director Robert Patton said inmate Clayton Lockett died Tuesday after all three drugs were administered.
