Two bodies of 4 missing students recovered
The Coast Guard has recovered two bodies of the four missing students of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), who went missing on Monday in Saint Martin Island in the Bay of Bengal.
The bodies were identified as Sabbir Hasan and Shahriar Rahman Noman, Teknaf Coast Guard Station Master Kazi Harunur Rashid told the Dhaka Tribune.
Sayedee appeals verdict any day
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will deliver its verdict any day in the war crimes appeals case of death row convict Delwar Hossain Sayedee.
The apex court has rejected two petitions of both the government and the defence which thought of calling the documents of Ibrahim Kutti’s murder case. The five member bench led by Chief Justice Muzammel Hossain passed the order on Wednesday morning.
BNP to march towards Teesta Barrage April 22
The BNP will start their long-march programme towards the Teesta Barrage on April 22 to press home their demand for proper share of water from neighbour India.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement in a press conference held at the party’s Nayapaltan office in the morning.
The party will start the long-march around 8am from Dhaka on April 22 and hold a rally in Rongpur around 4pm on the same day. Later, the party will commence the long-march around 9am on April 23.
Moncho activist files case against rivals
A portion of the Gonojagoron Moncho led by Kamal Pasha Chowdhury filed a case in the early hours of Wednesday against several activists of its another portion led by Imran H Sarkar for attacking one of the Moncho activists on Tuesday afternoon.
Sub-Inspector Emran Hasan of Shahbagh police station said pro-Kamal Pasha group activist Mohammad Hasibi Shahidi Shishir, who sustained injuries in the attack filed the case at around 12:30am Wednesday.
Father kills son in capital
A family related quarrel between the father and his son resulted into the death of the son when the father allegedly hit his son with an iron made pipe at his head early Wednesday in the capital’s Rampura.
The CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver father Dulal Miah, 50, went into a hiding following the death of his son rickshaw-puller Alam MIah, 20.
Tangail 8 by-polls: Polling underway in postponed centre
Voting in the postponed Ghechua Primary School polling centre for the Tangail 8 by-polls is underway on Wednesday. The polling began at 8am and will continue up to 4pm without any break.
Voting for the Tangail 8 by-polls was held on April 14. However, the polling was postponed in Ghechua Primary School polling centre following vote rigging allegations.
South Korea ferry rescue underway
After a ferry carrying 476 people capsized and sank off South Korea, Two people have already died and more than 100 still remains unaccounted for.
Local reports say so far, 368 people have been rescued. A major rescue operation is currently under way that involves 34 naval, coastguard and civilian ships, and 18 helicopters, reports BBC.
