A coordinated drive will launch from May on highways across the country to minimise traffic congestions and road accidents.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader has said this on Tuesday while visiting renovation works on Ghorashal-Tongi road in Mirerbazar area.
Terming accidents on highways as a matter of grave concern, he said: “Two committees have been formed by the ministry to ease traffic jams and to take measures in reducing road crashes on the highways.”
“We’ve already received one report and another will be available within this month. We’ll then take an effective and harsh decision,” he added.
While talking about the renovation work on the Ghorashal-Tongi road, Obaidul Quader said, the work will be completed by next June.
During the visit, Roads and Highways Dhaka divisional Superintending Engineer M Shahabuddin Khan, Executive Engineer Muhibul Islam accompanied the minister.
