BNP factional clash leaves one dead

A man was killed and seven others were injured in a factional clash of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at Chatura village under Sailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Ayub Hossain Mandal alias Ayub Matabbar, 51, son of late Mahtab Mandal, of the village.

Sailkupa police station Officer-in-Charge Maniruzzaman Mollah said there was a long time conflict between BNP leader Ayub Hossain Mandal and his neighbour Nekbar over domination in the village.

Both of them were the supporters of BNP leader and ex-municipality mayor Khalilur Rahman, he said.

When Ayub was returning home from a local market around 10pm engaged in an altercation with Khalek, belongs to the group of Nekbar over supremacy in the area.

At one stage both of them along with their supporters engaged in the clash with lethal and sharp weapons.

Ayub sustained severe injuries and rushed to Sailkupa Upazila Health Complex at 10:30pm.

The duty physicians referred him to Jhenaidah General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries about 12:00pm while undergoing treatment.

 

The body was sent to Jhenaidah General Hospital morgue for post mortem.

Injured Joad Ali, Ayub Hossain’s brother Shaowkat Ali, Hafiur, Shamim, Abdul Khalek and Allek were rushed to Sailkupa Upazila Health Complex.

No case was filed till and no one was arrested, police said on Monday morning.

Additional policemen were deployed in the village to bring the law and order under control.
