600 grams of gold seized at Shahjalal

An expatriate has been held along with 600 grams of smuggled gold at Hajarat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Friday night.

Identified as Abul Hossain, 41, the expatriate was detained by the personnel of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) immediately after he reached the airport from Singapore on a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 10pm.

Hailing from Shariyatpur district, the expatriate was held with six bars of gold hiding inside his shoes, said Alamgir Hossain Shimul, senior assistant superintendent of APBn at the airport.

“The expatriate was challenged for his suspicious movement while he was crossing the green channel at the airport,” said the APBn official.

The cost of the seized gold has been estimated at Tk 24,00,000, said APBn sources.

Later, the detained man was handed over to the Airport police after a case was filed in this connection.
