Awami League lawmaker Shawkat Hossain Hiron has been laid to eternal rest on Friday afternoon.
The city Awami League president and also former mayor of Barisal City Corporation (BCC) was buried next to the grave of his mother at Barisal Muslim Gorosthan (graveyard) around 3pm.
Earlier, his body was kept at the party office at 10:40am and Barisal City Corporation premises around 12 noon where people from all walks of life paid their last respects to the leader.
Later, Hiron’s body was taken to Bangabandhu Udyan for namaz-e-janaza which was held after Juma prayer around 2:30pm.
Industry Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, BNP backed BCC Mayor Ahsan Habib Kamal, Awami League Lawmakers Abul Hasanat Abdullah, Talukdar Md Yunus, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Bahauddin Nasim, Pankaj Debnath, Ruhul Amin Haoladar, Jatiya Party Lawmaker Mojibor Rahman Sarwar, among the others, attended the namaz-e-janaza and funeral.
A milad mahfil will be held to pray for the departed soul ofiron Hiron at Nuria School ground near his residence after Asar prayer on Saturday.
Hiron died at Apollo Hospitals in Dhaka on April 9. He was 58.
