No easybike in Khagrachhari from October

The district administration of Khagrachhari has decided to withdraw Easybikes – battery-run auto-rickshaws - from the streets of its municipality in October, aiming to ease traffic movement.

The decision was finalised yesterday at a special meeting held at the district administration conference hall, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Md Masud Karim.

Pointing out the hazards of letting Easybikes and unfit vehicles ply the roads, the top law and order body urged the rickshaw owners to lift their vehicles by October or face legal action.

The government body also decided to deploy personnel of four law enforcement agencies to ensure security during the Boishabi celebration, the biggest socio-cultural festival in the region that began yesterday and will continue until April 16.

Superintendent of Police SK Mizanur Rahman, Khagrachhari Municipality Mayor Md Rafiqul Alam, Additional District Magistrate Anar Koli, District Civil Surgeon Dr Narayan Chandra Das, General Secretary of Khagrachhari Press Club Abu Daud Muhammad, all upazila nirbahi officers (UNO), OCs and many civil society leaders were also present in the meeting.
