Ecnec okays 365MW power plant

The government has approved construction of Ghorashal 365MW Combined Cycle Power Plant at a cost of Tk2,511 crore.

With this project, a total of four development projects worth Tk2,793 crore were approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) at NEC conference room yesterday. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting.

Of the total cost for Ghorasal power plant project, the government will provide Tk745 crore, implementing organisation will lend Tk113 crore and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Tk1,653 crore.

Bangladesh Power Development Board is entrusted to implement the project by June, 2016.

“Of the total project cost, the government will provide Tk913.82 crore from the national exchequer and Tk1,766.3 crore would come as project assistance and an organisation concerned will contribute Tk113.30 crore,” Planning Commission Member Hedayetullah Al Mamun told reporters after the meeting.

The Ecnec also approved Establishment of Artistic Academy involving TK54 crore in Dhaka to bring the artistic children into the mainstream education system. Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education will implement the project by December, 2016.

Another development project “Establishment of National Institute of Advanced Practice Nurses in Bangladesh” has also been approved by Ecnec involving Tk128 crore in a bid to enhance the skills of the nurses trainers as well as to groom skilled nurses to enrich the healthcare services considering the global growing demand of the nursing profession.

The Institute would be set up in city’s Mugda under the supervision of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry to be constructed by June 2018. Of the total project cost, Koica will provide Tk112.84 crore as grant while the rest of Tk15 crore will come from the national exchequer.
