Don’t form political party, student bodies to Imran

Five student organisations leaning to political parties have asked Gonojagoron Moncho’s spokesperson Imran H Sarkar to step back from his idea of forming a political party.

Bappaditya Basu, president of the left leaning student organisation Chhatra Moitree, made the statement at a press conference at Madhur Canteen at Dhaka University campus on Tuesday morning.

The leaders of five student organisations -- Chhatra Moitree, Chhatra League (JSD), Chhatra Andolon, Chhatra Oikko Forum and Chhatra Samiti who extended solidarity to the movement that rose on February 5, 2013 at Shahbagh-- were present at the press meeting.

Basu, also the spokesman at the conference, said the political organisations which were involved in the Gonojagoron Moncho’s movement wouldn’t let it happen as it would be “a deception to the people of the country.”

He also warned of taking action against Imran H Sarkar.

In this regard, he said that he would sit together with all the student organisations.

Defending Chhatra League and Jubo league activists who were alleged for attacking on Moncho’s activists on April 3, Basu, said in reverse that it is Imran who himself is responsible for the situation.

“His “arbitrary and self adopted” decision making is solely responsible for the current situation.

He said some 205 organisations, including political, cultural and online based organisations worked in the Gonojagoron Moncho, which he termed as a “completely non-political organisation.”

No political endeavour in the name of the youth platform will be tolerated, he further said.

Gonojagoron Moncho, a youth platform which was formed protesting war crimes convict Abdul Quader Mollah’s life term imprisonment, may form a political party in future.

On Sunday, Imran H Sarkar, spokesperson of the Gonojagoron Moncho, a youth platform which was formed protesting war crimes convict Abdul Quader Mollah’s life term imprisonment, made the disclosure while talking to the private television network, Channel I.

Imran said: “The movement of Gonojagoron Moncho is going ahead in three ways simultaneously. It is a political movement, it is a social movement and it is a cultural movement.”

“Time will say in which way the movement will move forward, where the movement will end in future.”

“We cannot rule it out that whether the Gonojagoron Moncho will form a political party or not. If people decide it, the Moncho will certainly go such a way,” Imran said.
