The cabinet division has refused to shoulder responsibility for the quality of gold used in the medals awarded to foreign friends of Liberation War.
Instead, it is the responsibility of “the ministry concerned” involved with the “specific process,” the cabinet’s spokesperson said on Monday.
“If this incident has dented the image of Bangladesh abroad in any manner, it is the responsibility of those concerned with the process,” Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said.
A controversy arose regarding the quality of gold used in those medals after the honours were awarded through last year.
Later, it was found out that the amount was less than the expected weight after run through state-run Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
“The cabinet division only issued invitation cards and supervised the seating arrangements,” the cabinet secretary said in response to a relevant query.
“The foreign ministry was in charge of communications and the reception and departure of the foreign friends. Everything else was the responsibility of Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.”
The cabinet secretary was inquired regarding this matter, in response to which he refused to shoulder blames of the cabinet.
However, he did not elaborate on who was responsible for the incident.
