Rustom murder: RU Shibir leaders sued

A murder case has been filed against leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir over killing of Rustom Ali Akond, a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, Rajshahi University unit.

BCL RU unit vice-president Mehedi Hasan filed the case with Motihar police station on Saturday night naming 4 including Shibir RU unit president Asharaful Alam Emon and not naming 3-4 others.

Deceased Rustom, who was a fourth year student of the political science department and also the acting general secretary of BCL Shaheed Shuhrawardy Hall unit, was allegedly shot to death on Friday noon inside his room at the RU dormitory.

On the other hand, indefinite strike enforced by the BCL RU unit is underway for the second consecutive day on Sunday at the university.

"No classes and examinations are being held as the BCL men are carrying out strike on the campus.”

BCL activists also allegedly stopped the viva-vice exams at the departments of Economics, Bangla and Law.

BCL leaders and activists also formed a human chain in front of the university’s’ central library for releasing two point demands including immediate arrest of the culprits who were involved in the Rustom killing and banning politics of Islami Chhatra Shibir on the campus.

BCL leaders have vowed to continue their indefinite strike until their demands are met.

They declared to hold sit-in Monday in front of the university’s central library in this regard.

BCL also held a mass signature campaign in front of the central library in support of their demands.

Two Shibir men arrested:

A group of the detective branch of Rajshahi metropolitan police arrested two Shibir men from Dashmari area in the city on early Sunday, suspecting their involvement in the Rustom murder case.

The arrestees were identified as Shibir RU unit finance secretary Sanaullah Jacky and activists Khurshed Alam.

Ziaur Rahman, officer-in-charge of DB, admitted the arrest and Shibir men were under interrogation.

Arrestees will be sent to jail after being produced before court, he also said.
