Mufti Izhar, 8 others indicted

A Chittagong court has framed charges against Hefazat-e-Islam Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, his son Harun Izhar and seven others in three cases over grenade blasts at his Lalkhan Bazar Madrasa where three students were killed in October, 2013.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mujbur rahman passed the indictment order on Sunday.

The other accused of the cases are Abdul Hai, Rabibur Rahman, Md Ishak, Monir Hossain, Abdul Mannan, Tafsir Ahmed and Mohammad Junayed. They were produced before the court.

On March 27, the court issued arrest warrant against Mufti Izharul Islam.

On March 2, the court accepted the charge sheet against Hefajat-e Islam Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Izharul Islam Chowdhury, his son Harun Izhar and seven others.

The blast took place in a room of a dormitory of Al Jamiatul Ulum Al Islamia Madrasa in port city's Lalkhan Bazar on October 7, 2013.

Later, police recovered three hand grenades, huge materials for making grenades and 18 bottles of picric acid used to amplify the magnitude of explosion.

Three cases including one for murder were lodged with Khulshi police station.

Mufti Izharul and his son Harun Izhar are the prime accused in the cases.
