Two people, including a police constable, have been killed and three more policemen injured when a prison van turned turtle on west side of Bangabandhu Bridge at Mulibari in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as police constable Monir Hossain, 30, a member of Gazipur Police Lines, hailed from Mymensingh and a pedestrian Surjo Mandal, 70, of Dukhiabari of Mulibari area of the district.
Bangabandhu Bridge west zone police station Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam and Traffic Inspector Miladun Huda have confirmed the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.
Aminul and Huda said: “The prison van carrying two condemned convicts of a murder case from Kashimpur jail to the district town overturned on the road while giving side to a pedestrian, leaving Monir and Surjo dead on the spot and injured three more police constables around 9:30am.”
Police took the bodies from the spot at Bangabandhu Bridge west zone police station.
The injured policemen are Enamul Haq, Nur-e-Alam and Sanaul Haq. Ther were taken to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital.
However, the two condemned convicts were not injured in the incident.
