A policeman was killed on Saturday night when a covered van hit him in southern bypass area under Sitakunda upazila on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
The deceased was identified as Nasir Uddin Bhuiyan, 40, traffic sub inspector of Sitakunda police station, hailed from Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Istekar Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sitakunda police station, confirmed the death incident to the Dhaka Triune.
“A covered van hit Nasir at 11pm on Saturday while he was busy removing traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, leaving him injured seriously,” Istekar said.
He was rushed to Sitakunda Health Complex where on duty doctor declared him dead at 12:30am on Sunday, he added.
