Unfit vehicle eviction drive from May

The government will start special drive from May to evict unfit vehicles from Dhaka for ensuring a trouble and congestion free city.

The comprehensive drive would be operated along with other stakeholders, Communication Minister Obaidul Quader said.  

The minister made the statement on Saturday while visiting the activities of mobile court operated by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority in front of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the city.

He also tried to know the reasons for accidents that are happening at the most busy places.

Obaidul Quader penalised 13 vehicles for not having legal documents and fitness certificate while another four vehicles have been sent to the dumping station as those were being plied in the city even after expiring its validity.

A driver who did not have any legal documents including driving licence has been sent to jail for his offence.

Urging the people and media to play a positive role in reducing accidents and traffic congestions, the minister said: “The government is trying to eliminate those problems shortly to ease city lives so that people can move easily. Several positive initiatives will be taken in this regard.”

He ordered the authority concerned to set auto-signalling systems and rumble strips in that area by widening more dividers.

Chief Engineer of Roads and Highway Division Md Shahabuddin and Deputy Commissioner of Traffic North Zone Shah Abdin Hossain and other officials were also present along with the minister during the visit.
