Around 20 activists of Gonojagoron Moncho were injured in a police action as it and another group named Muktijuddha Sangsad Sontan Command tried to hold rallies at the capital’s Shahbagh yesterday afternoon.
Police resorted to charging batons and detained Moncho men, including Badhon, Farid, Sohag, Dhiman, Tito and Joy, and activists of the Muktijuddha Sangsad Sontan Command, including its President Mehedi Hasan Prince.
Condemning the police action, Gonojagoron Moncho spokesperson Imran H Sarker said: “We strongly protest and condemn the attack. Those who called the counter-programme yesterday used it as a political party against the Moncho activists.
“As we protested the government’s decision to take donation from the Islami Bank, we came under attack from the ruling party’s student wing.”
Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam of Shahbagh police station said: “Police dispersed Moncho activists to avert untoward incidents. We have also detained two members of Muktijuddha Sangsad Santan Command from the spot.” Moncho rally, 20 hurt
Shibli Noman, assistant commissioner of Ramna Zone of police, said they had not allowed any group to hold their rallies as they had no permission.
Meanwhile, both Gonojagoron Moncho and Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command filed separate cases with Shahbagh police station early yesterday against each other for the attack on Thursday night.
The cases were filed following their failures to reach any understanding at a meeting held at Shahbagh police station in the presence of some policemen.
Sub-Inspector Krishna Chandra Das of Shahbagh police station said a case was filed by Gonojagoron Moncho activist Nabendra Saha Joy accusing several leaders and activists of Jubo League, Chhatra League and Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command.
The accused in the case include Jubo League leader Nasim Al Mamun alias Rupak, Chhatra League leaders Sheikh Asman, Shishir, Abir and Shahin, and Muktijuddha Santan Command leaders Mehedi Hasan Prince, Babul, Misbah and some other unidentified people.
Mehedi Hasan Prince, president of the Muktijuddha Santan Command, also filed a case, accusing some leaders of Gonojagoron Moncho, including its spokesperson Imran H Sarkar, Nabendra Saha Joy and Badhon.
