An alleged notorious robber has been killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Urir Char under Companiganj upazila of Noakhali on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sahadat Hossain Jasu, 30, of the district.

Rajib said a gang of robbers of Jasu Bahini went in Urir Char area ahead of March 31 upazila poll in Sandwip Upazila but they could not leave the place as law enforcers cordoned off the area.
The first phase of gunfight took place between RAB personnel and Jasu Bahini at 5am on Thursday when they tried to leave the area. Later, the robbers took shelter in the forest of the area.
The gunfight took place again at 9am when the robbers tried to leave the place. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire at the RAB members and tried to flee the place.”
In retaliation, RAB also opened fire on the criminals, leaving an unidentified robber dead on the spot around 10am,” he added.
The RAB official further said the other “robbers” managed to escape the scene.
After gunfight, with the help of locals the body was identified as Sahadat Hossain Jasu, the ring leader of Jasu Bahini, said Rajib.
Meanwhile, RAB recovered a revolver, two guns, and ammunition from the spot.
“He had been involved in incidents of robberies in the Char belt of Noakhali and Chittagong including Urir Char, Hatiya, Sandwip. Several cases including murder and robbery were filed against him,” he said.
