New body to probe assault on Munshiganj UNO

A new probe committee has been formed to investigate the assault of an upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) by an assistant sub-inspector in Munshiganj during the upazila elections on March 23.

The three-member committee has been formed as per the directive of public administration on Wednesday afternoon; two days after conflicting probe reports were given by two other committees.

The committee members are Additional Secretary for Cabinet Division Ziaul Alam, Joint Secretary for Home Mustafizur Rahaman and Highway police DIG (Deputy Inspector General) Asaduzzaman Mia.

According to a notification of Ministry of Public Administration, the committee has been asked to submit the probe report within 7 working days.

Earlier on March 31, a three-member committee, headed by Additional Deputy Inspector General (Dhaka Range) Golum Faruk and another committee, headed by Additional District Magistrate Nazrul Islam further intensified the tension between the administration and the police.

The first committee did not find the allegation against the ASI true while the second one found the allegation of the UNO to be true.

During the upazila elections on March 23, ASI Md Emdad of Louhojang police station reportedly assaulted UNO ATM Mahabubul Karim of Gajariaupazila in Munshiganj. ASI Emdad was later suspended from duty.
