Patient commits ‘suicide’ at DMCH

A patient allegedly committed suicide at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s burn and plastic surgery unit in the capital early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Sakhina, 38, wife of Wahid Mia, of Ashatola village in Habiganj.

Deceased’s mother Nurzahan Begun said: “Sokhina was found hung to the grill of a toilet on the fourth floor of the hospital around 2:30am on Wednesday.”

On information, Shahbagh police went to the spot and sent the body to the morgue for autopsy.

Nurzahan said: “Sokhina was suffering from cancer for a long time. She had taken treatment at Mohakhali Cancer Hospital after an operation in Habiganj.”

On March 10, Sokhina was later admitted to DMCH’s for a plastic surgery.

Partha Sankar Pal, residential surgeon of the burn unit, told the Dhaka Tribune: “She might have committed suicide failing to endure the pain.”
