‘8,500 post offices to be turned into e-centres’

The government is turning 8,500 post offices into e-centres in order to disseminate information and communication technology service to the rural people across the country.

Post, Telecommunications and ICT Minister Abdul Latif Siddique informed the parliament on Tuesday, replying to a question from treasury bench member Nizam Uddin Hazari, reports BSS.

The minister said the government has taken a project named Post E-Centre for Rural Community-to turn 8,000 rural post offices and 500 upazila or thana post offices into e-centres across the country.

The government supplied hardware to 183 post offices including 80 upazila post offices, while 173 post offices have been providing services on test basis, he informed the House.

"Rural people will get computer compose, print, internet browsing, scanning, image, speaking online and video conferencing facilities through the project," Latif Siddique said.
