A total of 37 houses were gutted in four fires across Khankhanapur, Kalukhali and Kazibadha areas of Rajbari Sadar and Kalikhali and Jhenaidah sadar upazilas yesterday.
In Rajbari, at least 28 houses were gutted in three devastating fires incurring damages of around Tk17 lakh, reports our correspondent.
Rajbari fire service and civil defense sources said the first fire incident took place around 1:30am near Barek Market area under Khankhanapur union. The fire had originated at the residence kitchen of a local, Shamsuddin Khan, and soon engulfed 12 adjacent tin-shed houses.
The fire was brought under control around 4am after two firefighting unit went to the spot on information and doused the fire with the help of locals.
Another fire devastated 10 houses in Goalpara village in Kalukhali upazila of the district. The fire had originated from a dairy farm of Lokman Mollah of the village around 2:30pm.
The third incident took place in Kazibadha village of the district’s sadar upazila which gutted six houses, damaging all crops and valuables of the owners of the houses.
Three separate cases were filed with respective police stations in these connection.
In Jhenaidah, at least nine houses of four families were gutted in Kuthidurgapur village of the sadar upazila in the afternoon, reports our correspondent.
Fire service sources said the reason behind the fire could not be known immediately and the loss was estimated at Tk3 lakh. A unit of fire fighters went to the spot after being informed and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts.
