Voting for the Tangail 8 by-polls is underway on Saturday.
The polling began at 8am and continue up to 4pm without any break.
Five candidates are contesting the by-election to the parliamentary constituency.
They are Shawkat Momen’s son Anupam Shahjahan of the ruling Awami League, Sadek Siddiqui of Manju-led Jatiya Party and independent Abdul Malek (Awami League rebel) and Principal Abu Sayeed (Awami League rebel) and Liaqat Ali.
The constituency has a total of 307,382 voters – 145,576 men and 161,806 women – and 711 booths at 117 polling stations in the by-election.
The parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Awami League MP Shawkat Momen Shajahan on January 20.
