Poll violence victims succumb

Two people, including a ruling party leader, who sustained bullet injuries during poll violence in Rupsha Upazila of Khulna and Munshiganj on Saturday, died in the capital on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Selim Patwari, vice-president of Rupsha upazila unit Krishak League, and Lucky Begum, 32, a housewife of Munshiganj.

Police said 11 people, including Selim, were injured in violence at Rupsha Samantasena Siddiqia polling centre during upazila elections on Saturday.

Selim was first admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital and later shifted to National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) in Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.

He succumbed to his injures around 3:00am, said family members.

On the other hand, Lucky succumbed to her injuries in the capital’s Apollo Hospital around 8am and police sent her body to DMCH morgue for autopsy, said Apollo Hospitals source.
