National grid gets fresh gas supply

The Bangladesh Gas Field Company Ltd (BGFCL) yesterday started supplying 12 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas per day to the national grid from the 22nd well of the Titas gas field.

BGFCL Managing Director Md Nurul Absar confirmed the news and expressed hopes that the fresh supply would “help the country to ease the gas crisis.”

The company, a subsidiary of the state-owned Petrobangla initiated the drilling of the well through Bapex for exploration of gas.

Absar also said the BGFCL expected to add at least 50mmcf of gas per day to the national grid from two wells within May this year. Wells 19 and 27 at the Titas gas field would separately produce 25mmcf of gas every day, he added.

On the other hand, Bapex has completed the drilling work of the six wells of Semutang gas field of Khagrachhari, Abdul Halim, director of Bapex’s well-drilling project, told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

He also expressed hopes of adding at least 10mmcf of gas per day to the national grid from the well within the first week of April.

“Wells 4 and 5 at the Fenchuganj gas field will produce 40mmcf of gas per day within May,” MA Baki, managing director of Bapex, told The Dhaka Tribune. The well 3 at the Shabazpur gas field would also produce 20mmcf of gas per day, he added.
