The Disaster Preparedness Day - 2014 is being observed on Thursday in the country in a befitting manner.
To mark the day Disaster Management Ministry and different socio-political organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes, reports BSS.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given separate messages on the eve of the day.
In a message, President Abdul Hamid expected an effective disaster management infrastructure to protect life and property in future.
In another message, Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina recalled that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu had installed earthen forts as "Mujib Kella" in coastlines, which are still now being used as cyclone shelters.
She said her government was ready to incorporate disaster risk reduction issues in all development programmes to develop a safer future for the new generation.
