At least 15 people have been injured as a factory caught fire in the Pangsha upazila in the district on Tuesday afternoon.
Locals said the fire originated at the go-down of Amrita Food Products Limited around 10am and soon engulfed the entire floor.
After receiving information from the locals, three units of the Barisal fire service rushed in and managed to douse the flames at around 12:30pm.
Parimal Chandra Kundu, deputy director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense directorate Barisal station, said five FSCD men sustained burn injuries while trying to put off the flame.
The injured FSCD members are named Alauddin Mia, Asadaul, Jahirul, Gias and Nazmul.
Meanwhile, 10 workers of the factory also received injuries while escaping the incident, he added.
The injured labourers said an over load of electricity after installing air conditioners in the factory may have caused the short circuit.
Rahul Chandra Dey, one of the directors of Amrita Food Products, claimed that the extent of the damage would be more than Tk40 lakh.
An investigation committee has been formed by FSCD in this regard.
