A cultural procession on the gory night

A good number of theatre activists, artists, singers and musicians will embark on a cultural procession at 4:30pm  on March 25 from Chhobir Haat to the glass tower of the Independence Monument via Shikha  Anirban in the capital. With acting and art performances, songs and music, they will be remembering the horrific  massacre by the Pakistani army on pro-liberation Bangalees on the black night of March 25 in 1971.

Prachyanat, a prominent theatre troupe, along with like-minded friends arranged the parade and termed it Laljatra alternatively called Red Procession.

The march will start with a theatre performance portraying the mass execution on the night followed by a popular patriotic song of  Dwijendralal Ray’s Dhono Dhanne Pushpe Bhora. The musicians and singers will march forward singing patriotic songs, creating musical ensemble and remembering the martyrs of the night. The idea of the procession is generated by theatre activist and singer Rahul Anand. The procession is happening for the fourth time in consecutive years.

The organisers said: “This year’s episode is also planned with the participants joining hands and marching down the path where the martyrs have been brutally killed. United voices and tunes will resonate from the participants.”
