AL supporters assault journos in Satkhira

Supporters of ruling Awami League assaulted journalists and snatched away their cameras while framing obstruction to voting in Kolaroa upazila, Satkhira.

The incident took place during the fourth phase of upazila election across 91 upazilas of the country on Sunday.

New Age journalist Ruhul Kuddus and DhakaTimes24.com scribe Belal Hossain went to capture images of vote obstruction in North Keragachi polling station around 10:30am.

The two journalists said the supporters of an Awami League chairman candidate Firoz Ahmed assaulted the duo and snatched away their cameras.

The Awami League supporters took away the memory cards and returned the cameras after the matter was taken up with a mobile court, Belal said.

The documents that we took of the vote obstruction by Awami League supporters have been taken away, he added.

Satkhira was believed to be a stronghold of the Jamaat-e-Islami and listed a “vulnerable” area of the country where specialised forces were cracking down.
