30 injured in DU picnic bus accident

At least 30 people have been injured in a collision between a double-decker picnic bus of Dhaka University and a truck at Dhamrai on the Dhaka-Aricha highway on Friday morning.

Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) officials said the incident took place at Beltoli area when a BRTC double-decker bus carrying the members of Dhaka city unit of Tripura Students’ Council collided head-on with a truck on its way to Nahar Garden in Manikganj around 10:30am.

Dhamrai FSCD official Israfil Hossain confirmed about the accident to the Dhaka Tribune.

He said: “The speeding BRTC double-decker bus and the goods-laden truck collided head-on at the Dhamrai area, injuring the passengers on the bus.”

“The vehicles were severely damaged,” he said.

The injured were rushed to different local hospitals and clinics in Savar and Dhamrai, Israfil said.

“No one died in the incident but the condition of many of the injured are critical”, he added.

Quoting witnesses and victims, the FSCD official said both the vehicle had been rash driven and the accident took place when the drivers lost their controls over the steering of both the vehicle.
