Presiding officer killed in road crash

An assistant presiding officer, who was appointed in the third phase of upazila parishad poll, was killed in a road accident at Jhalua on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh on Saturday night.

The victim was identified as Ripon Kumar Dutta, 35, son of Jitendra Chandra Dutta of Nandail municipal area.

Ripon was a sub-assistant agriculture officer posted in Gouripur Upazila Agricultural Office.

The accident took place when Ripon was returning home riding a motor-cycle after conducting his duty in upazila poll as an assistant presiding officer at Gouripur Govt. College polling center.

A brick-laden lorry knocked from behind around 8pm, leaving him seriously injured, said Md Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station.

Later, he was taken to a local health complex where he succumbed to his injuries, said the OC.

The body was sent to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

A case for this matter was lodged.
