The candidates affiliated with the ruling Awami League have unofficially won in 31 upazilas in the third phase of upazila poll that was held on Saturday.
On the other hand, the candidates from BNP’s tent have clinched the chairmen’s post in 24 upazilas so far.
Candidates backed by Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP’s key ally in the 19-party alliance, have secured 3 upazilas until filing of this report around 12:38am.
Two went to PSJSS candidates, one to the LDP.
The voting began at 8am and ended at 4pm in 81 upazila parishads across 41 districts without any break amid violence, capturing of polling stations and election boycott.
A total of 1,119 candidates contested in the 81 upazila parishads polls.
Of them, 419 competed for the chairman posts, 423 for the vice-chairman and 277 for the women vice-chairman posts.
