Seven injured in fire incidents in 3 districts

Three family members in Dhaka, one female worker in Chittagong and three people in Cox’s Bazar were injured in separate fire incidents yesterday.

In the capital’s Azimpur, a couple along with their daughter sustained burn injuries in a fire at their kitchen at the Government Staff Quarters.

Injured Salamat Hossain, 48, an office assistant at the foreign ministry, his wife Lovely Akhter, 40, and their daughter Lima Akhter, 17, were rushed to the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital by their neighbours.

Victim Salamat said his wife’s sharee caught a fire while she had been heating water on a burner around 7am and he and his daughter sustained injuries while trying to put the fire out.

According to the DMCH the condition of the couple was critical as Salamat sustained injuries in 30 percent of his body and his wife in 48 percent of her body while their daughter sustained minor injuries.

Police and the victims suspect that the fire might have been originated from the stagnant gas leaked from the pipeline.

In the meantime, a female worker of a poultry farm received burn injuries as the farm was gutted in a fire in Kalurghat area of Chittagong city in the morning.

The injured worker Kohinur Aktar, 35, wife of Abdul Majid, was admitted into Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital, said fire brigade and CMCH police sources.

Jasim Uddin, deputy assistant director of Chittagong Fire Service and Civil Defense, said a fire originated from an electric short circuit at Badiul Alam’s poultry farm under Uttar Mohora of Kalurghat area around 4:30am and engulfed the adjacent Nabila poultry farm.

On information, two fire fighting units from Agrabad and Kalurghat Fire Stations rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after two hours effort, the DAD added.

In a separate incident, a devastating fire burned down around six business organisations and four households in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

The incident occurred in front of Ramu Girl’s High School in Choumuhoni Bus Station area around 12pm.

Three people received injuries and were admitted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Locals claimed that the fire had caused a damage worth over Tk 50 crore.

Four houses owned by Ruhul Amin, Surut Alam, Md Shamsu and Ahammad Hossain were also gutted.

On information, fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic effort.

The library owner Md Akhtar said the fire originated from the gas stove of Ruhul Amin’s kitchen. Later, the fire raged through the whole area.
